Installing the server

This section describes how to install the TextureMind Desktop (TMD) server on a Windows system. The installation process is intentionally simple and requires minimal user interaction.

Unlike some remote desktop solutions, TMD does not provide multiple install modes or component selection. The installer configures all required components automatically.

Downloading the Installer

Download the latest version of the TMD server installer from the official TextureMind website:

Installer Naming Convention

The Windows installer follows this naming format:

TMDServer2025.<minor_version>.<patch_version>-x86_64.msi

Example (latest version at the time of writing):

TMDServer2025.1.0-x86_64.msi

Installing the TMD Server

Installation Procedure

  1. Log in to the Windows system using an account with Administrator privileges.
  2. Double-click the installer file: TMDServer2025.1.0-x86_64.msi
  3. The installation wizard opens and displays the Welcome screen.
  4. Review and accept the End-User License Agreement (EULA).
  5. Click Install to begin the installation.
  6. Wait for the installer to complete.
  7. Click Finish to exit the wizard.

No system reboot is required unless prompted by Windows.

Installer Behavior and Defaults

During installation, the TMD server installer automatically performs the following actions:

  • Installs all required server components
  • Registers and starts the TMD server service
  • Configures the Windows Firewall to allow inbound traffic on the required port

Firewall Configuration

  • The installer automatically opens TCP port 4815 in the Windows Firewall.
  • The port number is fixed and cannot be changed.
  • Firewall configuration cannot be disabled during installation.

Ensure that any external firewalls or network security appliances also allow traffic on port 4815.

Installation Limitations

Be aware of the following limitations when installing TMD on Windows:

  • No component selection: All features are installed automatically.
  • No unattended or silent installation: Command-line or scripted installation is not supported.
  • No custom port configuration: The server always listens on port 4815.
  • No optional dependencies: The installer does not require or install .NET Framework or Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributables.

Verifying the Installation

After installation completes:

  1. Open Services (services.msc)
  2. Verify that the TextureMind Desktop Server service is present and running
  3. Confirm that port 4815 is listening: netstat -an | find "4815"

If the service is running and the port is open, the TMD server is ready to accept connections.
