The new amazing version of TMD 2026.1 is finally out. You can find it in the download page, you can also find the most relevant changes here. The new version introduced so many changes that I decided to remove the older versions to start again from version 2026.1. That’s because TMD has now the viewer in a web-browser, which allows you to connect from any machine capable of running a modern web-browser without the need to download and install the viewer. To make it possible, I needed to implement a new WebSocket/HTTPS connection in the new port 8191, to keep backward compatibility in the port 4815. The new version introduced also the concept of session, so you need now to configure a valid console or virtual sessions for accessing your machine; virtual sessions are supported on Linux, and they can run on X11 and Wayland. I fixed many bugs which prevented the older versions from working correctly. For example, version 2026.0 broke macOS with a black screen at start; the windows version, broke ffmpeg; the Linux version had black screen issues on some environments, poor Wayland support, fractional scaling issues, it was hard to install and it had no support for virtual sessions at all. All these issues are fixed now, and TMD now is a full reliable remote desktop software that you can use in place of paid products with the same features. The extreme backward compatibility has been preserved in the new version: TMD 2026.1 can still run on Windows Vista 32-bit and CentOS 7, even if more advanced features, like hardware encoding and Wayland support, are available only on modern operating systems.
