TextureMind Desktop (TMD) software enables organizations to host remote desktop sessions centrally, allowing users to connect securely to a Windows, Linux or MacOS environment from remote clients. Both platforms share the same core capabilities, with minimal differences to consider.

Requirements

To ensure a smooth and responsive user experience, TMD servers must meet the following prerequisites:

RequirementDescription
Supported PlatformsWindows (x86, x86_64), Linux (x86_64, arm64) and MacOS (arm64)
Dependencies (Windows)No additional frameworks are required; unlike other remote desktop solutions, TMD does not require .NET Framework (e.g., .NET 4.5).
Dependencies (Linux / MacOS)Compatible with major distributions (e.g., Ubuntu, RHEL, CentOS), assuming 64-bit x86_64 / arm64 architecture.
Hardware Encoding (Optional GPU)If available, GPU-based encoding improves performance (Windows only), but software-based methods are also supported; no GPU sharing functionality is provided.
NetworkDefault communication port is configurable; ensure relevant firewall rules are in place.

System Requirements

To ensure stable and performant operation, TextureMind Desktop servers should meet the following minimum requirements.

Network and Port Configuration

TextureMind Desktop servers communicate with clients over TCP. By default, TMD uses the following ports:

ProtocolDefault PortPurpose
TCP4815Secure control channel (TLS encrypted)

You can modify the default port settings in the server configuration file or during installation. When deploying TMD in environments with strict firewall rules, ensure that TCP traffic on the configured port is allowed.

Deployment Scenarios

TMD can be deployed in a variety of environments depending on organizational needs:

  1. Single-user Workstation Access
    • A TMD server is installed directly on a workstation.
    • Ideal for users who need to access their personal desktop remotely.
  2. Centralized Server Access
    • A TMD server runs on a Windows or Linux server, hosting a single desktop session that multiple users can connect to (one at a time).
    • Suitable for shared access to centralized compute resources or specialized software.
  3. GPU-Accelerated Workloads
    • A server equipped with a dedicated GPU can be used to deliver smoother graphics rendering and improved performance for visual workloads.
    • Note: GPU sharing between sessions is not supported.

Summary

TextureMind Desktop (TMD) provides a streamlined, secure, and efficient remote desktop solution across an high range of Windows, Linux and MacOS systems. Administrators can tailor deployments to fit organizational needs, from single-user remote access to centralized server-based environments.

By following the recommended system specifications, configuring ports properly, and choosing the right deployment scenario, organizations can ensure a reliable and responsive experience for their users.
